Southeastern Guide Dogs 2011 Summer Events
For those of us who love our pets, it is no secret that our animals possess a certain charm. And while each pet may have its own unique personality, one need only to look at recent research to realize the healing and helping potential that animals can bring to the community.
This summer, the Southeastern Guide Dogs Discovery Center is offering a variety of workshops, community events for children, and educational training sessions for pet owners. The Center is located in the heart of downtown Sarasota, at 1618 Main Street, near the intersection of Main and Orange Streets. (941) 953-2892.
- Bring your family (as well as your camera!) for some “puppy hugging” at the Southeastern Guide Dogs Discovery Center on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 11:00 to 1:30 PM. From 10:00 to 11:00, help the Discovery Center use sidewalk chalk to decorate their sidewalks with adorable puppy artwork! Reservations are requested by calling (941) 953-2892.
- Other family-friendly events include the “Puppy Tales Reading Time” allows children of all ages to come and listen to stories about dogs. This event will take place on June 18 and June 25 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations requested. (941) 953-2892.
- Take advantage of the opportunity to board a bus at the Discovery Center, and travel to the guide dogs’ main campus in Palmetto, FL. Along the way, the guide will provide you with information about Southeastern’s programs. Upon arrival, you will have a guided tour of the 23-acre campus, including interaction time with puppies and guides-in-training. You will then be returned to the Discovery Center and enjoy a question-and-answer session along the way. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling (941) 953-2892. There is a suggested donation of $10.
These are just a few fantastic ways to incorporate some puppy love into your summer.
