Siesta Key – Second Best Beach in America
We can’t stop talking and writing about Siesta Key beach. As Dr. Beach pointed out in his May report on the 10 Best Beaches in America, Siesta Key Beach is outstanding. For 2009, Dr Beach named Siesta Key the No. 2 Beach in America. Siesta Key’s sand is famous all over the world. Known for its white sandy beach that is made up of 99% quartz, Siesta Key’s sand is not made of up mostly coral like other beaches. On some of Sarasota’s hottest days, the sand is cool to the touch. Near the shoreline, the waters of the Gulf of Mexico at Siesta Key are shallow allowing small children and adults to enjoy splashing, wading and swimming safely. There is year-round life guard protection.
Siesta Key Beach is home to some of Florida most outstanding real estate. Siesta Key beach real estate has been popular for decades as many families vacation here, return for multiple visits and then purchase a home or condo on their favorite island.
Siesta Key beach condos range from tiny motel type condominiums, duplexes to contemporary newer high-rise condos that mingle with the older condos, many in the midst of remodeling their lobbies and amenities to provide buyers with the activities and surroundings they desire. Gulf front condos are the most popular and command a higher price if the view is extraordinary. Bayside condos are popular too as boaters seek condominiums providing boat dockage and easy access to the Gulf of Mexico. Siesta Key’s condo selection is still excellent and prices have adjusted considerably. Prices currently range from $150,000 to $4,250,000 for a condo, townhouse or villa. Prices do not include time share or fractional ownership buildings which start as low as $30,000 for a few week’s use.
Residents of Siesta Key sit on their balconies and take in the sites of the surf, wildlife, beachcombers, swaying palm trees and bask in the warm weather. Walks to the Village are popular as well as dining in cafes and restaurants of Siesta Key Village. Surf shops, specialty shops and restaurants are busy with travelers from around the world.
The Sarasota MLS reports 418 condos, townhouses and villas for sale currently and over 200 single family homes. Many single family homes are found on canals leading to the open waters of Sarasota Bay with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico. Boaters are careful to ask about properties with “no bridges to the Bay” depending on the size of their craft. Fixed bridges don’t work for large sailboats. Water depth is a consideration on Siesta Key too. Be sure you have a Sarasota realtor who is experienced in waterfront properties to help you with your purchase.
